Have you ever wondered if your friends or family are emotionally unstable? There are four critical signs that someone you know or love might be emotionally unstable. Everyone should pay attention to these signs because they could give a clue as to whether or not your friends, family, or loved ones are in need of help.
#1 Various types of unusual behavior.
There are a few things to look out for when you’re suspecting a loved one is suffering from a mood stabilization issue. According to the American Psychiatric Association there are several unusual activities that should be warning signs. If your friend is being overly suspicious or nervous, this is an important change to take into account. Illogical thinking or exaggerated beliefs in things like having magical powers. These types of irregularities can point to seriously unstable emotions.
#2 Withdrawing from various activities suddenly or without reason.
The American Psychiatric Association warns that isolation and withdrawal from normal everyday routines is a warning sign of mental illness. A recent and sudden withdrawal from social activity is a definite sign of an emotional problem. This withdrawal may coincide with a mood swing.
#3 Impulsive Behavior
The UK’s National Health Service warns that people with emotional instability may have extremely impulsive behavior. Much of the time this impulsive behavior can be self-destructive. This may exhibit itself in unsafe use of drugs and alcohol or could even include self-harm. Someone exhibiting these self-destructive behaviors should get help immediately.
#4 Having a pattern of unstable relationships.
People who are emotionally unstable are often unable to maintain a healthy relationship. People who are extremely clingy or smothering may be unstable themselves. People with emotional stability problems often have mood swings and this can make for volatile romantic relationships. The UK’s National Health Service says that it can even go as far as constant texting or calling and can even include people physically clinging on to people. This unsafe pattern can get so destructive that the emotionally unstable person may become even more impulsive.
