Ever wish you could read minds? Great news! You already can—or as close to it as possible, anyway. It turns out our nonverbal cues communicate more about what we’re thinking and feeling than our words do. According to Entrepreneur, you already pick up on more body language cues than you’re consciously aware of. For example, if you walk into a room full of people and you already know who is in charge, it is likely the boss’s posture told your subconscious so. And a prolonged tilted head will let you know when someone is bored, while a quickly tilted head conveys interest. …Similar gestures with almost polar opposite meanings, both translated without a single spoken word.
Translating nonverbal cues such as these might be the closest one can get to reading minds.
Without knowing it, we all offer hints as to our true feelings and thoughts by means of body language. Clenched fists, crossed arms, downward gazes, finger taps to the eye…these movements and more are chock-full of hidden meanings. Unlocking the meanings behind nonverbal gestures, both yours and that of others, will give you the conversational advantage.
