Let’s be honest. Even if you’re not particularly afraid of mice, spiders or insects, you probably don’t want them all over your home.

They’re unsanitary. They can make things awkward when you’re trying to relax with friends and one pops out of nowhere.

Further, they can eat your food, and can be a nuisance when you’re trying to relax. They’re a bit like teenagers, except that getting insects and mice out of your house isn’t as simple as popping a Kenny G album into your stereo.

No, you need something a bit more heavy duty when it comes to getting nature’s pests out of your home for good.

Luckily, heavy duty doesn’t have to mean expensive or unnatural. It also doesn’t mean you have to set a bunch of traps that will leave clean up for you every time you head into the basement.

No, the super duper pest-be-gone method I’m suggesting today is simple…

It smells awesome. To humans, anyway. But to insects, spiders and mice, it’s awful.

You can start by planting peppermint around your home – in your front and back yards, etc. This will be a natural barrier to keep the pesky little buggers away from your property.

Inside your home, you can do a variety of peppermint-flavored things to put up a second line of defense.

One tactic is to fill socks with dried peppermint and place them around your home in the places mice, insects and spiders tend to get in. The garage is a must.

You can also make peppermint tea, let it cool, and place it in a spray bottle. Mist the tea around spaces such as closets, cabinets, carpets, doors and windows.

The key is that the smell of peppermint must be strong, according to DeadPestz.com.

If you’re having trouble getting enough peppermint to create an environment that reeks of the stuff, consider using peppermint essential oil instead. This is a much stronger, concentrated source of peppermint that will require very little actual liquid to get your home smelling minty fresh.
