There are few things as refreshing as herbs grown in your own backyard. They provide a completely different taste and quality in foods than those you buy at the grocery store.
You can technically grow your mint or parsley with little organization and it’ll taste just fine. But with a few basic materials and time, you can actually whip together an awesome herb rack that will make your yard come to life in a whole new way.
HomeMade Modern put together a video showcasing a DIY copper structure that accomplishes just that. It can be adjusted to fit a variety of herbs and it can be placed in a variety of arrangements depending on your yard’s layout.
The supplies you need are as follows:
- Half-inch copper pipe
- Half-inch T-fittings
- Half-inch copper elbows
- Tube cutter
- Half-inch pipe straps
- Gorilla Glue (or other strong metal bonding glue)
- Flower pots
- Drill
The quantity of each item will depend on how many plants you’re planning on growing using the rack. That old high school design and tech adage applies here – make sure you draw out a diagram with measurements before you buy all your material to avoid having to go back.
The beautiful thing about this copper structure lies in the way it will age. Just like the Statue of Liberty, it may start out looking shiny, but eventually it will develop a nice patina.
