Every dog owner wants their pooch to be healthy and happy. If you have a pup at home, you know how hard it can be to resist those adorable eyes when they’re peering up at you from under the table. You might have the best intentions when it comes to keeping your pup on a dog food diet, but you’ve probably strayed more than you’d like to admit. If you like sneak your dog some goodies from your plate every once in a while, here are 8 healthy foods that are perfectly fine for them to munch on!
1. Oatmeal
Oatmeal makes digestion smooth and comfortable for dogs due to its fiber content. It’s especially good for older dogs with digestive troubles. Cook the oatmeal as usual, but make sure to cool it before serving it to your dog.
2. Parsley
If your dog’s breath is a problem, try parsley! It’s a good source of potassium and calcium, and it will also help to neutralize bad breath. Simply chop up a few tablespoons and it it to your dog’s food.
3. Peas
Peas contain potassium, which is a crucial mineral for your dog’s overall health. Peas also contain phosphorus and Vitamin B. All you have to do is add some to your dog’s food for a health boost!
4. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil isn’t just great for you, it’s wonderful for your dog too. You can add unsweetened coconut flakes or coconut oil to your dog’s food to nourish his skin and fur. Coconut oil also contains monoglyceride monolaurin, which has antibacterial and antiviral properties.
5. Seaweed Nori
Nori is dried seaweed. You can usually find it wrapped around sushi rolls! It’s rich in fiber and Vitamins C and E. It’s great for regulating metabolism and keeping your furry friend healthy.
6. Carrots
Carrots contain multiple vitamins that provide a health boost for you dog. They’re great for scraping plaque off of your dog’s teeth, which can lead to tooth decay and infections. Baby carrots work perfectly for you dog, they’re bite-sized and already peeled!
7. Yogurt Or Cottage Cheese
Dairy products can provide a healthy dose of calcium for your pet. Yogurt and kefir contain probiotics that keep the digestive tract running smoothly. Make sure you look for skim or low-fat varieties for you pup.
8. Lean Meat
Lean meats such as chicken, pork and beef are great sources of B Vitamins and amino acids. They provide an energy boost and help regulate metabolism. Be sure to look for cuts of meat with no visible fat when buying meat for your dog. Avoid ground meat – it usually has a higher fat content!
