Ending a relationship with someone you care about is never easy. Whether it’s with a significant other, friend or family member, choosing to cut ties can be painful. However, it may also be necessary in order to protect yourself or to live a happier and healthier life.

Here are seven signs that it’s time to let go and move on:

1. You Change Who You Are Around That Person

If you find yourself talking differently, dressing differently, or acting differently around someone, chances are it’s because you aren’t comfortable being yourself around them. You should never feel the need to change who you are just to accommodate someone else. If they don’t accept you for who you are, you don’t need them in your life.

2. Your Aren’t A Priority To Them

If you’re the only one who cares to call or make plans, it might mean that your relationship isn’t a priority to the other person. If you have a hard time getting them to respond, or they frequently cancel plans with you, it might be time to let go and move on.

3. They Aren’t Dependable

When you care about someone, you’d like to think that they would be there for you in a time of need. If you can’t count on your friend, family member, or significant other when you need them the most, you may need to reconsider the relationship.

4. They Repeatedly Break Your Trust

A relationship cannot survive without trust. If someone you care about is constantly betraying you or lying to you, chances are that will never change. If you are repeatedly getting hurt by someone, it’s time to end the relationship.

5. You Don’t Feel Positive After Talking To Them

Every relationship goes through rough patches, but the majority of the time, your relationship should be positive. If spending time with someone makes you feel negative or brings you down, you may want to start keeping your distance.

6. They Don’t Actively Listen To You

A true friend listens. A person that values your relationship will make it a priority to actively listen to what you have to say. If they are only interested in taking about themselves, interrupting you or disregarding your thoughts and feelings, it’s probably time to cut ties.

7. They Constantly Use You

Someone who truly cares about you would never take advantage of you. If you constantly feel used in your relationship, it’s a sign that they don’t care as much as they say they do. Stand up for yourself. If your relationship is toxic, it may be time to end it.
